WELCOME TO THE FIRST DAY OF LENT

ASH WEDNESDAY COLLECT

Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

breath slowly...read this collect thoughtfully...don't rush the words in your mind...let the Holy Spirit work...

Thanks.....two phrases struck me as I prayed: one, "wretchedness" - my condition; two, "perfect remission"- God's provision. Praise God for online set prayers.

this collect can be found in anglican prayer book. The language in the first official prayer book of 1662 is dated but the theology is solid. The later revisions update the language but the theology in some cases is vulnerable to liberal interpretations and conclusions

So the older version is still better despite its outdated language.
